Man caught sexually abusing dog released from custody

A Calexico man who is almost 70-years-old was arrested for sexually abusing his dog last year. He is facing animal cruelty charges but is not being held in custody because the charges are minor offenses.

Calexico residents are frightened by the alleged acts of 69-year-old Carlos Rangel. Out of fear, some prefer to remain anonymous.

“It’s really scary when you have children. Apparently, it is a serious problem that is happening but we just noticed it,” said a neighbor of Rangel.

It was a neighbor who filmed the man having sex with the dog and turned the footage over to authorities.

Rangel was then taken into custody and booked into the Imperial County Jail.

“The incident occurred in August of last year but the man was processed on the 15th of this month,” Officer Oscar Ruiz said, of the Calexico Police Department.

According to neighbors, there has also been a lot of vandalism in the area, where children, families, and pets play daily.

“We have to be more vigilant and be more careful with the people who are surrounding us because we do not really know what kind of people we live with today,” said a neighbor from Calexico.

The dog remains in custody at Animal Control of the Imperial Valley and Rangel is no longer allowed to see the animal.
