An Imperial County Paramedic plans on spreading awareness for his co-worker who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
Guillermo Gonzalez plans on walking from Calexico all the way to Bombay beach to spread awareness for his co-worker who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.
EL CENTRO. Calif, (KYMA, KECY) - Carlos Lizarraga is accustomed to serving his community, in most recent months he was a first responder for COVID 19 patients, he is no longer able to work, as he was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.
“This walk initially started once I knew that Carlos was diagnosed with leukemia,” he said.
Gonzalez is a paramedic field training officer for AMR in Imperial County. He and the department are trying to raise one dollar per mile from the general public to help their co-worker with medical expenses.
“Medical expenses are going to get steep for him, the EMS force and AMR and local united EMS workers want to raise funds," he said.
His co-workers say that Lizarraga is best known for his leadership and passion.
“He’s passionate and funny, PASSIONATE about what he likes to do, he really enjoys what he does," Gonzales said.
“He’s a go getter for sure, and he likes to make people laugh, he’s very humble and very nice guy," Anthony Villa Jara another co-worker added.
Villa Jara is a co-worker who recently visited Lizarraga, he says he’s been staying positive and keeping a smile on his face.
As for Gonzalez, he has a daughter who is only six months, he says he’s learned from many how to be a good father, and from Carlos who has three kids of his own.
Gonzales plans to start the walk on May 24th while the department started a gofundme and is asking the community for support.
