Views on President Trump’s first year in office
Two leaders from public groups on both sides of the political aisle are sharing their thoughts on President Trump’s first year in office. Whether it was the “Twitter rants” of new policies, it’s been a busy year for President Trump. “President Trump has done an amazing job.” Ken Darby is an organizer of a Pro-Trump group and says Americans should focus on the positives from the President, rather than the negativity from some media. “Stock markets are at a record high, the unemployment rate is at a 17 year low, and minority and women are seeing the best unemployment rate since they started keeping track. I hope people will put away these side feelings.”
For Fred Brown of Yuma County Indivisible, he believes Trump hasn’t kept his promises and is concerned for the future in leadership. “His policies seem to be opposite from what he campaigned on,” said Brown. “His idea of draining the swamp and then hiring folks who have opposite views on the historic agencies where they were hired to administrate seem to be opposite of draining the swamp.” With midterms in November, both organizers meet in the middle and agree it is up to voters to stay informed on future candidates and current policies. “Is everything perfect, no,” said Derby. “Nothing is going to be perfect for you, but look at your paychecks, look at consumer confidence, and look at all the positive things going on. Come midterms in November, the people will put people in office who will continue those goals.” Brown says, “We’re hoping for 2018, the public will be educationally informed and aware of these past unkept promises and change the leadership of Congress.”
