Somerton Cocopah Fire responds to two-vehicle crash

The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at Avenue G and County 17th Street at 12:02 p.m. Wednesday.

SCFD personnel found a white full-sized pickup truck with front end damage on the east side of the intersection. A silver compact sedan was on the southwest side of the intersection with significant damage to the front driver side quarter panel and extending across the driver’s side door.

The driver of the silver sedan was trapped in the vehicle and the passenger was trapped due to the door of the vehicle being partially blocked by a telephone pole. Firefighters used the “jaws of life” to open the driver side door and a pry tool to get the passenger door dislodged from the telephone pole blocking it.

The driver of the silver sedan stated that he was headed southbound on Avenue G when the white pickup truck, which was stopped at the intersection headed west, suddenly entered the intersection, hitting the sedan.

The driver of the silver sedan complained of having had a momentary loss of consciousness and pain in his right shoulder and neck. The female passenger complained of pain in her right shoulder, back, neck and head. The driver of the white pickup truck stated that they were uninjured and refused treatment and transportation.

Both occupants of the silver sedan were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center.
