Palisades fire continues to burn, suspect is a homeless man
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - A California man is in custody, accused of starting the major wildfire in Palisades that is now out of control.
The 'Palisades Fire' is burning about 20 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. Evacuations are ongoing and have already included about 1,000 people.
The fire started on Friday evening and has now burned more than 1,300 acres. There is also 0% containment on the wildfire.
LAPD said Tuesday that the suspect accused of starting the fire is 48-year-old, Ramon Santos Rodriguez, who officials say is also a homeless man.
So far, no homes or other structures have been burned by the fire while more than 500 firefighters are working to get the fire out.
This fire comes as California has been in a massive drought for weeks. Experts worry it will only get drier and hotter which could potentially create for another devastating wildfire season.
In 2020, California had one of its worst wildfire seasons in history.
