Topic of the Day: Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For many American January 15th means a day off from work or school; but, this day is special in that it’s the birthday of one of the greatest Americans in U.S. history. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was more than just a Civil Rights leader, more than a Nobel Peace Prize winner and much more than an average man, he possessed qualities only found in heroes, those men and women that stand in harm’s way to protect others.
Like many Americans Dr. King struggled to find his calling and in the end that calling cost him his life. Dr. King Jr. is remembered for his time fighting for Civil Rights during a period when segregations and racism was rampant throughout the country. One of his first protests involved a young woman who refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger. One of his more memorable protests was in Washington D.C. where he called for the end of racism and gave his famous “I have a Dream” speech.
