Police: Mexicali man arrested after 41 migrants found smuggled in truck

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY) - Mexican police arrested a man after being accused of transporting 41 migrants in a truck over the weekend.

Televisa Mexicali reported the man was arrested Saturday in the Nezahualcóyotl ejido, in Mexicali. Police observed the man driving a 1999 green F-150 pickup with fake license plates and pulled him over.

The State Security and Investigation Guard said the man was attempting to cross all 41 people through the "cuervitos" dunes or the place known as pisavidrio in Mexicali. The 39-year-old driver told police he was working for a man in charge of crossing migrants through the border. Adding they had charged each migrant $8,500 to cross them into the U.S.

Police said the man remains in custody and faces human trafficking charges.
