Foundation giving students with special needs the chance to dance the night away
It will be a night to remember for many students with special needs all thanks to former Florida football star Tim Tebow and a local church.
It is a night dedicated to giving students with special needs a night to shine.
“Tim Tebow Foundation came up with this, it is a night it is a worldwide event that happens Valentine’s Day weekend,” said Jason Taylor, lead pastor at Vertical Church.
With more than 450 churches participating around the world, Vertical Church will be hosting a prom for students with special needs.
Taylor said, “Churches worldwide on that same night, February 9th, will be hosting a prom for students with special needs.”
At this event, all participants are treated like royalty.
“Every kid that attends will be celebrated as a king or queen of the prom, there won’t be just one, it’s not like that. We want every kid to feel special,” said Taylor.
The students will not only get the traditional dinner and dance party but also all the works.
“There will be a red carpet, they will be celebrated as they come in. We have people who will be able to fix their hair, makeup, shoeshine, and the boutonnieres and the flowers.”
Parents will have a separate room where they can relax and watch the dance through a monitor.
“I had heard about the event, and I really have a heart for kids with special needs and thought this will be a great thing for Yuma,” Taylor said.
This will be the very first night to shine prom that comes to Yuma, but the vertical church hopes to turn it into an annual celebration. It is a completely free event, but space is limited to 75 students who are 14 and older.
