Christmas parades give chance for youth to showcase talent
City of Calexico celebrates the holiday season with their biggest Christmas parade yet.
To some people, the Calexico Christmas Parade on Saturday was a great opportunity for many things. Instructor Alex Lee of the Calexico Martial Arts School said it was a great time for youth to show what they’ve got.
“The opportunity for the youth groups to show what they practice every day at school,” Lee said.
He said it was a way to get youth involved in something positive. And a chance for the Christmas spirit to be showcased.
“A chance to show the community that there are options for our youth. In parades, in community activities, in any good activity that we have a chance to be in.”
He added it was a time for border cities to come together. We saw over a dozen Mexicali schools taking part in the event.
Thousands of people lining up the streets, from Second Street all the way to City Hall on Heber Avenue.
The parade was even a chance to meet a few superheroes. We saw people dressed up as Spiderman, Batman, Batgirl and other Marvel characters.
Most of all, Lee said it was a time to show love and friendship to all.
