Fire at local home

The El Centro Fire Department said firefighters battled a house fire Monday morning.

ECFD said they got a call of smoke coming from a home in the 1100 Block of S. 14th St. at 2:56 a.m.

The first ECFD Engine Company arrived on scene five minutes after the initial dispatch, and found an abandoned home with smoke coming from the roof. El Centro Firefighters performed an aggressive fire attack at on the structure.

Firefighters said heavy smoke and fire was found in a bedroom and hallway area. ECFD said the initial knockdown of the fire was completed within minutes of arriving on scene, as firefighters started searching the home.

A second alarm was requested by the incident commander bringing one additional Battalion Chief and fire engine from Imperial County Fire Department. Fire crews remained on scene until 5:30 a.m. A total of 16 Firefighters brought the fire under control with no injuries to civilians or firefighters reported. The Imperial County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Imperial Irrigation District, El Centro Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Southern California Gas provided support during the incident. El Centro Fire Department Investigators are currently working to determine the cause.
