CBP Officers Catch 80-Year-Old Fugitive on the Run from Child Rape Charges

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico downtown port of entry arrested an 80-year-old fugitive on the run from child rape charges.

According to news reports, the fugitive walked out of a Washington state courtroom on Oct. 21, 2016, right before being found guilty of child rape.

“This is another example of Calexico CBP Officers performing critical enforcement work,” said Area Port Director David Salazar. “The apprehension of this man illustrates an effective layered enforcement strategy that our agency performs every day, which ensures community safety.”

The arrest happened Tuesday, when William George Nicol entered the downtown port driving a 1995 Lincoln Town Car. The CBP officer ran the man’s name against law enforcement database systems and discovered the man had an arrest warrant. Both driver and vehicle were escorted for further examination.

A CBP officer confirmed the man’s identity using his fingerprints and found that he was the subject of two felony warrants for allegations of child rape issued by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in the state of Washington.

After the warrant was confirmed, the man was turned over to the custody of state and local officials and later booked into the Imperial County Jail where he awaits extradition.
