YPD officer arrested on sexual assault charges
The Yuma Police Department said one of it’s officers was arrested in San Diego on charges of sexual assault.
YPD said they were informed of the arrest last Friday. The officer was not on duty.
YPD said at 4:23 a.m., San Diego Police Officers responded to a sexual assault call. Jared Elkins, 33, was taken into custody and later booked into San Diego County Jail on sexual assault charges.
Elkins has been a police officer with the Yuma Police Department for seven years. YPD said they are in the process of placing him on administrative paid leave until further notice.
