LA woman arrested for smuggling narcotics during Calipatria State Prison visit

A 50-year-old woman was arrested after attempting to smuggle methamphetamines and heroin while visiting Calipatria State Prison during the weekend.

Facility “C” Visiting Staff were alerted to L os Angeles resident Suzanne Briggs who appeared nervous by not making eye contact and refusing to answer questions.

Ms. Briggs was asked by the Investigative Services Unit staff if she had any contraband and she relinquished two bindles from her mouth to Investigative Services Unit staff.

The first bindle had a weight of 3.2 grams of a white powdery substance, suspected to be methamphetamines, which had an estimated prison value of $3,200. The second bindle had a weight of 2.5 grams of a black tar-like substance, suspected to be heroin; which has an estimated prison value is $1,875.

The evidence collected did not connect any inmate to the crime. Ms. Briggs was booked into County Jail and is facing felony charges.

If convicted, Ms. Briggs is facing three to five years in prison.
