USA Women’s Soccer draws tough competition, decision on fans in Tokyo delayed & more

(KYMA, KECY/NBC News) - The Olympic soccer tournament draw was held on Wednesday and the USA women's national team drew a tough card, having to faceoff against a team who knocked them out five years ago.

That team is Sweden.

USA lost to Sweden in the Quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio Olympics in a shootout and now they have been put in the same group for the Tokyo Olympics. The other two teams in that group include Australia and New Zealand.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knock-out stage of the tournament.

Team USA is looking to be the first ever women's team to win a World Cup title and the Olympics back-to-back.

Meanwhile, the USA national team may have to go without American fans this summer as Tokyo Olympic Organizers are delaying a decision on spectator limits for the games, possibly until June.

They initially said they would decide by the end of April on how many domestic spectators would be allowed to attend the events, but Tokyo 2020 President, Seiko Hashimoto, said in a news conference that the decision would need more time while they study the pandemic's impact on the country.

This comes after a resurgence of Covid cases in Japan.
