Somerton standoff suspect slapped with felony charges

The man accused of holding police outside his home for seven hours Wednesday appeared in court to face several charges.

Alfredo Bran-Ibarra, 37, is charged several counts including fraudulent schemes, money laundering, theft of a credit card or obtaining a credit card. He’s also facing five other charges.

According to Sergeant Lori Franklin with the Yuma Police Department, detectives were scheduled to serve a search warrant on a home near Somerton Ave. and west Canal St. in the Somerton.

YPD said prior to detectives arriving, Border Patrol agents had an incident with Ibarra that led him to barricade himself in his home.

YPD said these allegations stream from November 21, 2016.

Ibarra surrendered to police at about 6:30 p.m. Streets reopened several minutes later.

No one was injured during the standoff.

Ibarra will be back in court August 14. The judge set his bail at $50,000.
