Monsoon storm destroys home in La Paz Valley

A monsoon storm just southeast of Quartzsite caused a lot of damage in the La Paz Valley area.

Officials said a microburst likely hit Century Drive off of Highway 95 on Thursday afternoon and snapped power poles and even flipped over an RV trailer home.

The home, in the community of La Paz Valley RV Park, suffered severe damage from the storm, according to Quartzsite fire department. The mobile RV home lost its roof, damaged a neighbors trailer, and a second neighbors fence.

According to Jesus Verdugo, a friend of the home owner, the single mother of three that lives in the home was not there at the time. Vertigo says it’s the temporary home she uses to stay at when working long shifts and is too tired to drive to work in Yuma, Ariz.

“She has dedicated her life as a public servant with over 13 years in law enforcement in the Yuma and Quartzsite police departments,” Verdugo posted in a Facebook post.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for this family.
