Border Patrol agents arrest gang member in desert near Calexico

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents recently stopped a gang member with multiple felony convictions from re-entering the United States.

Agents say they encountered a man early Friday morning about 22-miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry. They say they took him into custody and brought him to a processing center.

That's where a background check revealed the 41-year-old Mexican national had multiple felony convictions, in both Imperial and Los Angeles Counties, for crimes including Grand Theft, Robbery, Evasion, and Re-entry of a Deported Felon. Agents say records show he served more than eight-years in prison before being deported in 2004.

The man will be charged with Re-entry After Deportation and be held in federal custody. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20-years in prison.
