13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

It’s a case that has left many baffled; a troubled man encouraged to commit suicide by his girlfriend. Fueled by texts between the two, up until the young man Conrad Roy III took his last breath. Since his death in 2014, his then girlfriend Michelle Carter has been on trial having been charged for involuntary manslaughter.

According to prosecutors the texts show Carter encouraging Roy to end his life; one message was sent just minutes before he killed himself, texts show Roy was hesitant and commented that he couldn’t do it, Carter then encouraged him to finish what he started. According to court documents the couple both had bouts with depression and in the beginning Carter was supportive and encouraged Roy to seek help.

Michelle Carter was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and has now been sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
