The self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in the country” Joe Arpaio has been found guilty of misdemeanor contempt of court. The former Maricopa County Sheriff is no stranger to a courtroom; over his two decades of service the lawman has been accused of various crimes. The case is tied to Arpaio’s immigration sweeps which according the U.S. District Court was racial profiling and the sheriff was asked to stop.

According to Arpaio and his attornies the injunction wasn’t clear; at the time of the injunction Sheriff Arpaio was running for re-election and according to records he pushed his agenda even harder to boost campaign donations and may have even won him the race. The 85-year old lost his last election and is now facing possible jail time. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5th.
