Yuma girl scouts earn high honor in their division for donation
A girl scout troop in Yuma has received the highest honor in their division by making a difference in the community.
The young ladies of Troop 631 woke up early Monday morning to drop off the “everyday essentials” to domestic violence victims at Safe House. Safe House is a domestic violence shelter which serves victims who deal with the different types of abuse, such as physical, emotional, sexual and financially. Earlier this year in February, Troop 631 provided Valentine’s Day cards for victims, but after hearing Safe House is low on supplies in the summer, the girls wanted to be there for them once more.
Girl Scout Eliana says,”We’re here because they could use some help by us donating some items that you need on a daily basis.”
Zoey Tashner reads down the list of the items, “Laundry soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair ties, combs, hair brushes. I’ve had a great time with all my sister girl scouts.”
Gabriella Sanchez from Safe House, says summer has to be the hardest time for to receive donations but is extremely grateful for the girls’ hard work.
“It was just a blessing, everything you see here goes back to our families and residents at Safe House. Right now we have a lot of children, and it’s going to be a benefit.”
The girls worked about eighty hours combined collecting donations from schools and around the community. The act of giving gives these scouts the Bronze Award which happens to be the highest award in the Junior Division.
