Community shares concerns with Assembly Member Garcia on Saturday

Gang violence, jobs and bad air quality are just some of the many concerns the community shared with Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia at Saturday’s informal meet and talk at his offices in the City of Imperial.

MAG Coalition founder Yulil Alonzo-Garza wants state help to fight gang violence.

“It’s like going to see your doctor to see what she or he can do for you. Gives me a chance to welcome him back home and at the same time give him an update on what’s going on in the community that he serves,” Alonzo-Garza said.

Comite Civico del Valle Director Jose Luis Olmedo wants to talk about environmental laws.

“I want to congratulate Mr. Garcia on the passage and the signing from governor brown on his bill AB 617 which he authored. AB 617 will begin to address these contaminants that are affecting our neighborhoods,” Olmedo said.
The informal talks will continue thru the summer.

Local businessman David Canez said, “When you have doubts, when you have questions, and these opportunities are here, take advantage of them, come over and ask a question, get involved a little bit. It may not be the best answer some times or it may not be the complete answer for you, but it gets a dialogue going.”

Assembly Member Garcia explained that being close to the community is part of his job.

“My job is to legislate, is to introduce state laws. At the same time, is to help people with problems with state agencies. When people come to us with any of those two issues we are more times than not able to help them. I’m hopeful that we’re able to hear the problem, identify some potential solutions and take action and have our team follow up and follow through hoping with some type of resolution,” Garcia said.

The next Saturday meet and talk with Garcia is set for August 16 th . For more information on upcoming events, please contact the office of Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia at (760) 355-8656.
