Stuff the Bus event helps children prepare for school

The community came out to help The Foundation of YRMC and 13 On Your Side today at the Harkins Roundabout in order to help students in need. The Stuff the Bus event, which has been an annual event for the past four years aims to raise enough money or school supplies to help students in need.

“Education is the most important thing we can do for our children and if a child starts school unprepared, they’re already behind,” Rachael Barkley said.

When the event first began, they were helping around 200 students. Now, they reach goals of helping out about 6,000 children. With the help from APS, Target, FedEx, multiple donors and proceeds from surrounding establishments, Stuff the Bus is a successful event every year.

Barkley said that they’re going to start stuffing the backpacks as early as next week.
