Yuma County to receive $348,109 to supplement Emergency Food and Shelter Programs

Yuma County has been selected to receive $348,109 in State Set-Aside dollars to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area. A local board made up of community volunteers will determine how the funds are to be distributed among local agencies that run Emergency Food & Shelter Programs.

The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.

Under National Board terms, local governmental or private organizations chosen to receive funds must:

1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of governments,

2) be eligible to receive Federal funds,

3) have an accounting system,

4) practice nondiscrimination,

5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and

6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply. The Local Yuma County Board has distributed E.F.S.P funds previously with Catholic Community Services, The Salvation Army, United Way of Yuma County, Yuma Community Food Bank, W.A.C.O.G., Church for the City and Crossroads Mission.

The se agencies were responsible for providing over 150,000 meals, 7,500 nights of lodging and helped over 180 individuals with utility assistance.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for E.F.S.P funds must contact Karina Jones, Local EFSP Contact at karina.jones@local.unitedway.org or 928-783-0515 for an application. The deadline for applications to be received is Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 12:00pm at the United Way of Yuma County, 180 W 1 st Street, Suite B, Yuma, AZ.
