Kids will have access to free meals during summer break

Children and teenagers under the age of 18 will have access to free and healthy meals during the summer.

This is thanks to the different free food programs provided by different local organizations in different cities.

In El Centro, the free lunch program of the Central Union High School District (CUHSD) will begin on June 12. Meals will be served at Southwest High School from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday.

Nutrition Director of CUHSD, Erika Allen, says that this program gives them the opportunity to provide healthy meals to children in the community and helps parents not have to cook and save money.

Meadows Elementary will also be offering the program, distributing meals to the El Centro Public Library and the Martin Luther King Pavilion.

The Calexico community will also benefit from this free food program which will be offered at the Kiki Camarena Library. A program carried out in collaboration with Calexico Neighborhood House. The food will be served Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to children under 18, as well as a sandwich at 3:30 p.m. The free meal program will be just one of the activities that the Calexico Library will be offering.

“We have a family reading program, activities for all ages we have different clubs, we have a club for children who do not yet read and also one for teenagers, so I recommend that you pick up the calendar and see all the activities and you sign up,” said Sandra Tauller, Director of Community Services in Calexico.

The free food program will also be offered at the Calexico Community Center from Monday through Thursday. For more information visit www.calexicolibrary.org
