Fire has burned 120 acres near Winterhaven
UPDATE: 2:50 P.M. – The fire that is burning near Winterhaven, Calif. has now scorched 120 acres, according to the Imperial County fire chief.
The Lake Island Fire has displaced a total of four families. There is still not word on what caused the fire.
The trailer homes in the area were not hooked up to any utilities. The Red Cross is also providing assistance.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: According to the Quechan Police Department as many as four trailers caught fire Friday morning. They said there were multiple propane tanks in the area.
The fire is east of Cocopah Road near Winterhaven, officials say the wind is fueling the fire, making it bigger.
Still no word on the exact number of homes that have been damaged or destroyed by the fire. Also no word on how many people have been displaced.
The Yuma Fire, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Imperial Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and others are on the scene.
