Officials speaking before the Senate Intelligence Committee is usually routine and for the most part a mundane experience. But, when word spread regarding the testimony of the recently terminated director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation the nation and for the most part the world waited in anticipation.
Businesses throughout the U.S. held watch parties and an open dialogue sparked on social media on just what the now private citizen James Comey would say about meeting with President Donald J. Trump. As well as his feeling of being fired under a cloud of confusion; which according to Capitol Hill ranged from the Clinton Emails to the Russian investigation.
The hearing started bright and early and before answering any questions Mr. Comey made a brief statement. In it he made references to his termination in which he understood that by law a President is within their right to fire him at any time. But, Comey expressed that he felt blind sided, since up to that point President Trump commended him for doing a good job. Even more so, when according to Comey, he learned about his termination through the media and then learned about the reasons from yet another media source.
Comey seemed upset when he quoted remarks from the president which referred the the FBI as being in disarray and that it was poorly led. Comey then assured the nation that the FBI is stronger than ever and that its in good hands. Mr. Comey also took this time to thank those who have served alongside him saying “It was the honor of my life to serve beside you to be part of the FBI family. And, I will miss it for the rest of my life.”
