Musical show raises money for college program

Calamity Jane and her gang were on stage at the Pioneers Museum on Saturday evening.

One of the event’s organizers, Jeannette Monroy, said, “Imperial Valley Chorale Society is having a show tonight and we’re raising money with a silent auction to benefit the chorale society.”

Monroy pointed out to the full auditorium, emphasizing how the community had responded enthusiastically to the program. She said the event was completely sold out.

Dinner and a silent auction were part of the evening.

“We had a lot of really good things donated tonight,” Monroy explained.

The proceeds of the silent auction will benefit the Chorale Society which is a part of the larger Master Chorale Program offered at Imperial Valley College.

“Some paintings and figurines and people been very generous with their bids,” Monroy said.

Saturday’s program, billed as “Annie’s Black Hills Chuck Wagon Dinner Show featured songs from the musicals “Calamity Jane” and “Annie Get Your Gun”. Monroy explained the Master Chorale offers different shows throughout the year.

The Master Chorale has been a course at IVC and performing for the past 24 years. They have performed at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York and toured Europe.

Saturday’s show was only a part of their full performances.

“It’s been a lot of fun and we raised some good money, and had a lot of fun in the process,” Monroy concluded.
