Bestiality suspect no longer facing animal cruelty charge

20-year-old Christopherson David Maynes, the suspect connected to a bestiality incident, made his first court appearance Thursday.

Maynes is facing a felony charge of bestiality. His initial misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and indecent exposure have been dropped.

It was Monday evening when the Yuma County Sheriff’s office responded to the 1400 block of North Catalina Drive in Dateland, Ariz. in reference to an animal cruelty case.

Upon arrival the reporting party told officials Maynes was caught having sex with a mare, a female horse.

Deputies were able to recover footage of the incident and officials are holding that video for evidence in future court proceedings.

Maynes is held on a $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for June 8.
