Fourteen undocumented immigrants found hiding in dump-truck bed

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 14 undocumented immigrants who were hiding in the bed of a dump truck.

Agents assigned to the El Centro Sector say the driver of the truck, a 36-year-old border-crossing card holder, drove up the Highway 86 checkpoint.

The agent sent the man to secondary inspection, where agents found 13 men and one woman hiding in the bed of the truck. Agents say the group of undocumented immigrants were not secured and were unable to get out of the truck without help as a heavy duty carp covered the bed and was securely latched down.

“This is an example of the blatant disregard for human life and safety to those being smuggled by these smuggling organizations,” said David S. Kim Assistant Chief Patrol Agent, “This could have turned into a very bad situation if the vehicle would have gotten in an accident or left unattended for a long period of time.”

The driver will be prosecuted for alien smuggling, while the 14 undocumented immigrants are being processed.
