Interstate 8 partially closed following crash

Interstate 8 westbound near Avenue 8 1/2 E was partially blocked following a crash involving a big rig and an Arizona Highway Patrol vehicle.

The area is now open as of 4:50 p.m.

DPS said troopers were responding to a crash Monday at 2:30 p.m. on milepost 9. They said when a third trooper arrived he parked on a side lane and started putting cones in the area.

That’s when they said the driver of a big rig hit that vehicle. DPS said they believe the driver was distracted because they were looking for directions on their phone. The big rig is still on Interstate 8 and troopers are waiting for a tow truck to remove it from the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

The closure lasted more than two hours.
