“Moving Beyond Trauma” empowering survivors of abuse

The Women Empowerment conference Friday at Yuma Main Library is helping victims and survivors move beyond the trauma from the different forms of abuse. Victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse came together sharing stories and experiences, and changing the way they seem themselves. Estrella Fitch, the Director of The Healing Journey in Yuma, says this the fourth year they’ve hosted the event, saying it brings the conversation up in a safe environment. Fitch says, “We don’t need Judgement. What we need is empowerment. We also have the survivors that have gone thru the trauma. I think mixing it is perfect because they get to understand what the woman is going through. Why didn’t she leave? How did she feel getting sexually abuse- and then you have the social worker understanding the dynamics of it.” News 11 Dallis Ontiveros tells us more about the event tonight in the Evening Edition at 5/6p.m. PST.
