“Fidget Spinners” makes their spin around local classrooms

The “Fidget Spinner” is the latest gadget that’s meant to help students dealing with ADHD or with anxiety. A middle school student describes the toy “fun” and “popular” amongst classmates.

“You can just feel the breeze of it and you can concentrate a bit more.”

Mrs. Jones has already seen her middle school students use them in class and so far hasn’t had a problem with them.

Jones says, “They are using them under the desk, they are using them to keep them quiet, and they’re actually working.”

The “Fidget Spinner” has been a trending item across the nation, but some schools are finding the hot gadget more of a distraction. Some schools even banning them from classrooms.

“When it becomes a distraction, then I can take it like a pencil, a hairbrush, just like anything else,” Jones says.

Principal Cazares says the popular “spinner” hasn’t been “banned” but has been regulated in the classroom. Cazares says he understands why students use them and see why they work.

“It does entertain you, I’m not going to lie, I can see why how the kids can stay focus on this, but they still need to be doing their work, up until now it hasn’t been a problem.”
