Law enforcement agencies pass the torch to the Special Olympic Games

The Special Olympic games begin this weekend and law enforcement around Yuma County are on the run!

San Luis Officer Luis Marquez has been apart of the “Torch Run” for 5 years. He says the community’s support and involvement gets bigger and bigger every year.

“It’s been great, you know it’s a little hot,but I think all the supporters don’t mind. I mean, I didn’t have any complaints. They kept their pace, they kept their spirit, they were happy to see us do this great event”

The twenty-six mile run started from San Luis,Mexico to the heart of Yuma,Arizona. One of the few torch runs in the nation that goes international.

“Each agency has it’s own leg. Our first leg along with C.D.P is from the port to Wal-Mart. Each agency has to run with the torch for an average 1 to 2.5 miles.” says Marquez.

The run continues to Glendale,Arizona to start the games this weekend.
