Toddler drowns in Tucson family pool

Officials say a 2-year-old girl has died after she was found floating in the backyard pool of a home in Tucson.

Northwest Fire District crews had responded to a call from the child’s mother Wednesday night saying her daughter wasn’t breathing.

Firefighters arrived at the home and learned the girl had been found floating in the pool.

Her mother had started CPR until paramedics took over.

The toddler was taken to a hospital and later died.

Fire officials say the mother told them that the girl had been in a back bedroom of the home but managed to open a door that led to the pool.

Sections of a protective fence surrounding the pool had been taken down the day before for repairs. Authorities are investigating.
