Carne asada event helps feed the homeless

Spread The Love Charity organized Saturday’s 2nd Annual Carne Asada Cook-Off event at Starks Field in El Centro. They raised money to continue feeding the homeless.

Nine cooking teams competed to win first place and $1,000. Hundreds of families and friends made a celebration of the event. Over 30 vendors distributed public information or offered snacks and other goodies.

First place and Best Salsa winner was Las Chabelas Restaurant and winner of People’s Choice was Kennedy’s Taco.

Spread The Love Charity officials said they need food, clothing, hygiene items and sheets. They have been feeding the homeless every evening for the past two years.

“They get a microwavable meal and a water. We help them with clothing, with hygiene. And we also have a program where they get fed every day at six o’clock. We have different volunteers that go out there to the park and they prepare the meal. We prepare about 45 meals that we pass out at the park for them,” Maricella Moreno said.

Spread The Love Charity accepts donations at 485, Suite D, Broadway Street in El Centro.
