Arizona high court: California lawyer should get a new trial

The Arizona Supreme Court has ruled a California divorce lawyer convicted of second-degree murder in Arizona should get a new trial.

The state’s high court ruled Monday in the case of Robert Fischer of Irvine and remanded it to the trial court.

A Maricopa County Superior County jury convicted Fischer in the December 2010 shooting death of 49-year-old Norman “Lee” Radder.

Radder was shot at his home in the Phoenix suburb of Queen Creek after an evening of drinking.

A county judge ruled in March 2014 that evidence didn’t support the jury’s verdict against Fischer and ordered a new trial.

The Arizona Court of Appeals reinstated the murder conviction in 2015, saying the trial judge abused her discretion and the jury properly weighed the circumstantial evidence in the case.
