Phoenix police: Dead body found in burning car is identified

A dead body found in the trunk of a burning car abandoned after a Phoenix police chase last month has been identified.

Police announced Thursday that the body was that of 40-year-old Dustin Jones and the homicide case is still being investigated.

Officers were called in the early morning hours of March 30 about a person threatening others with a gun.

Police spotted the vehicle involved at a gas station and a brief pursuit ensued.

The car later was found crashed into a tree and engulfed in flames.

Police say the car’s two occupants fled on foot and the dead body in the trunk was discovered after the fire was extinguished.
