Woman injured after driving into canal

A woman only suffered minor injuries after she lost control of her car causing it to go into a canal.

California Highway Patrol officers say Martha Sillas, 58, allowed the 2004 Buick she was in off the road, she over corrected to get back on the road and lost control.

Sillas struck a raised concrete curb and a metal guard rail before driving into the canal. The strong water current pushed Sillas’ car underwater and through the gates of the canal.

She was able to grab on to a flow meter and hold until CHP officers along with a bystander were able to rescue her.

CHP released the collision report, which states the incident happened at 12:45 p.m. on Monday at State Route 186 at the All-American Canal.

Officers say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
