Three suspects on the run after local attempted armed robbery

The Yuma Police Department said it is looking for three suspects tied to an attempted armed robbery in Yuma. YPD said on Wednesday at approximately 6:07 p.m. officers responded to an armed robbery call that took place in the 1500 block of S. Avenue A.

The initial investigation showed that the victim was standing in the northwest corner of S. Avenue A when a white BMW pulled up. A passenger in the vehicle demanded property from the victim while brandishing a handgun. Officers were told the handgun appeared to have a malfunction and that is when the vi ctim ran from the area and called police.

A few minutes later, an officer located the vehicle in the area of 8th Street and Avenue B. The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued by YPD officers. A short time later, the pursuit was called off due to safety reasons. YPD said the vehicle was last observed crossing the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge into California. Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and Quechan Tribal Police were notified by dispatch. The white BMW was found abandoned and it was recovered in Winterhaven, Calif.

At approximately 10:44 p.m., one suspect was located and taken into custody. There are three suspects still outstanding, one male and two females, unknown descriptions at this time.

The white BMW had been reported stolen shortly after midnight on Wednesday. There have been no reported injuries reference to this case.
