A 33-year-old man is dead days after he attempted to commit suicide while in custody at the Somerton Police Department.

In a press release issued on Thursday by the department, Chief B.B. Cotman states that the man was arrested on January 20 in suspicion of armed robbery and attempted murder.

Officers found the man hanging in a holding cell. The man was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for his injuries. However, he later died on February 1.
