Multiple hit and runs lead to an arrest

A string of hit and runs led to an arrest overnight in Calexico.

Police tell us that there were three hit and runs caused by the same person. That person was tracked down at his home and may face multiple charges.

“One of our officers was flagged down by an off duty officer in reference to the off duty officer being rear ended by a red vehicle,” said Detective Armando Orozco with the Calexico Police Department.

The off duty officer followed the red vehicle and during that time the Calexico Police Department received reports of two other hit and runs describing the same car.

“Patrol officers conducted their investigation and canvassed the area and they were able to locate the vehicle and the driver involved in those collisions,” explained Orozco.

Were told the subject behind the wheel is a veteran who struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He was cited and released on scene to a responsible party.

A total of three cars were hit and the subject was identified by witnesses at three separate scenes.

“The first one was on Cole and Rockwood, the second was on Zapata and Andrade, and the third was Zapata and Grijalva,” added Orozco

Police tell us the best thing to do when involved in a hit and run, is to observe and report, and try to get the license plate number if you can.

Were told that a report has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office and DUI charges are pending.
