Man dies in sand dunes rollover
A 69-year-old man died after the sand car he was in rolled down a hill at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.
The incident happened Saturday evening on what’s known as “Test Hill”, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers.
The man was driving a two-seated sand rail with a 12-year-old boy in the passenger seat, when they drove up the hill. As they went up the hill, the car lost momentum, the man then tried to turn the car around. However, the car rolled on its side and rolled over several times down the hill.
Officers say the man suffered fatal head injuries during the rollover. The man’s name was not released.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident.
