Phoenix police identify man who was fatally shot by officers

Phoenix police have identified a man who was fatally shot by officers after he allegedly made threats and simulated a shooting stance.

They say 38-year-old JR Williams was taken to a hospital after Monday’s shooting and he later died.

Police say they made a traffic stop on an SUV they had been following from a suspected drug house.

They say Williams was driving the vehicle and was found to be a registered sex offender.

Police were trying to handcuff him after a shotgun was spotted under the driver’s seat when he broke free and ran from officers.

They say Williams turned and drew his arm from his waistband with a clenched hand and simulated a shooting stance when an officer opened fire.

Police say drugs were later found on Williams.
