Topic of the Day: Blackfish Dies

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

For decades millions have visited SeaWorld parks in order to catch a glimpse of one of nature’s majestic hunters; the killer whale. SeaWorld has just announced that one of their more famous orcas has died.

Tilikum has spent most of his life in captivity and since being captured in the wild the killer whale has lived up to it’s name having killed three people, two of which trainers. In 2013, Tilikum was featured in the documentary “Blackfish” which showed the whales living conditions and the constant demand to perform.

The film was blamed for a drastic decline in park attendance and SeaWorld has since announced that this generation of killer whales will be the last to perform. The theme park has commented that the whales will not be released, due to their inability to hunt; instead they will remain at their parks.

Officials released that Tilikum was suffering from a lung infection before dying but it’s yet unknown if that’s what killed the killer whale.
