El Centro looking to fill city manager postition

The city of El Centro is looking to fill its city manager position after the recent retirement of Ruben Duran.

Our cameras were at city hall where officials hope to soon fill this position.

Duran held this position for almost 13 years and the city is looking to fill this position after the deadline in February.

We spoke to the Director of Human Resources today on what this position entails.

“It’s the top position for the city. It reports directly to the city council and the city manager oversees all the departments within the city,” said Teri Brownlee, Director of Human Resources for the City of El Centro.

Those departments include the deputy city manager, public works, human resources, the police department and the fire department, which the city manager will oversee and administrate.

“The minimum is eight years of experience in local government, whether being in a city manager position or an assistant or deputy city manager position,” explained Brownlee.

Among other requirements, experience with budgets, municipal bonds, grants and strong interpersonal skills are a huge plus.

“There is going to be at least a two-step interview process, they’ll first interview with the task force, then the top applicants will move on to the full city council,” added Brownlee.

The deadline to apply for this position is February 15th and the city council plans on filling the position shortly after.
