Yuma Police Department gives back on Wheels

The Yuma Police Department is getting into the holiday spirit and giving back to the community.

It’s an annual event that gives local families in need presents for the holidays. Lori Franklin has been a part of this event before and always looks forward to it.

“We got bikes, we got presents, hopefully, these kids are going to have a great Christmas.”

This year they’re surprising five families, a total of twenty children.

The families are chosen through referrals and recommendations from patrol and school resource officers throughout the year. Franklin explains, ” A lot of it’s through our own work, dealing with families who are less fortunate than others.”

Police Assistant in Investigations, Kaweah Worthen, collected the donations from the community that included bikes for all the children.

“We had five businesses get together and donate bikes for our children, so on top of all the gifts that we were able to purchase, we’ll be able to give them a nice Christmas.”
