Lin’s Restaurant shooting suspect wanted for almost three years arrested in Mexico City
The U.S. Marshals have arrested a man wanted in a 2014 fatal restaurant shooting.
YPD said Modesto Cortes-Serrillo was arrested in Mexico City on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. for a warrant in reference to the April 13, 2014 fatal shooting at Lin’s Grand Buffet. The U.S. Marshals went to Mexico City to arrest Cortes-Serrillo and brought him back to Yuma to face his charges.
Modesto Cortes-Serrillo was allegedly taken to Mexico by his son and daughter after he allegedly shot 43-year-old Santiago Olivo-Diaz multiple times outside Lin’s Grand Buffet after an argument. Police say Cortes-Serrillo and the victim knew each other, according to a press release issued in April 2014.
Hector Dominguez, manager at Lin’s Grand Buffet says he remembers the night of the fatal shooting. Dominguez says the victim repeatedly stressed that he did not know Cortes-Serrillo.
Cortes-Serrillos’ son, Modesto Cortes, 18, and daughter, Daisy Cortes, 23, were arrested for hindering prosecution after investigators discovered they both helped him get away.
Cortes-Serrillo was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center Tuesday night for 1st degree murder. He made his initial court appearance Wednesday morning.
It is still not known where the U.S. Marshals found the murder suspect, or how law enforcement was able to finally track him down after he was on the run for more than two years and eight months.
