Shots fired in Yuma neighborhood
The Yuma Police Department said a man was flown to a Phoenix hospital following a shooting in Yuma. Police said officers responded to a “911 open line” call in the 900 block of West Holly Drive Tuesday night. While officers were responding to the call, dispatch stated they could hear someone say “I just got shot”.
Initial investigation revealed that two male roommates were in a physical altercation inside the residence. During the fight, officers said one roommate attempted to barricade himself in his bedroom while the other tried to force open the door.
An unknown Hispanic man that was also inside the residence left the residence and returned with a gun. A single gunshot was fired inside the residence and the fight broke up.
One of the roommates fled to his bedroom with his girlfriend and locked the door. The unknown Hispanic man exited the residence and another shot was heard from outside the residence a few moments later. The unknown person then left the area in an unknown direction.
One victim was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for an injury to his hand. It is unknown at this time if the resident was injury is from a gunshot or being crushed in the bedroom door. He was later flown to a Phoenix hospital to see a specialist.
The suspect is only identified as a Hispanic man. No other suspect description details were available.
