Man wanted for aggravated assault on YPD officer

Yuma Police Department officials are searching for a 26 year-old man, after he is accused of having assaulted a police officer with an object, last Monday.

An officer was assessing traffic near the intersection of Palo Verde Street and Catalina Drive, when a car ran through the intersection stop sign.

According to police, the suspect, Christian Silva threw a glass bottle at the officer, shortly after the driver of the vehicle was pulled over for the traffic violation.

“As the officer was approaching the driver side of the vehicle,” Sgt. Lori Franklin said. “The back passenger side door flies open and the subject jumps out, throws something at the officer, then runs away.”

The officer didn’t run after the suspect, but instead remained by the car with two other suspects, a passenger and the driver.

According to officials, the two suspects were arrested shortly after Silva fled the scene.

The suspects, 21 year-old Graciela Quevedo and 26 year-old Daniel Vargas were arrested for the possession of drugs and firearms, located in the back seat of the car .

“Upon looking at the back seat of the vehicle,” Franklin said. “There were numerous firearms found in the vehicle. Both the driver and the passenger wound up being arrested, [for the] prohibited possessor for the driver and possession of drugs for the passenger.”

Police said Silva is wanted for the charge of aggravated assault on an officer.

Those with more information that could help lead to Silva’s arrest are encouraged to contact Yuma Police Department immediately.

“We are considering him armed and dangerous,” Franklin said. So if someone from the public does see him, do not try to approach him. Call us, let us know where he is and let us try to apprehend him.”

WE ARE CONSIDERING HIM ARMED AND DANGEROUS SO IF SOMEONE FROM THE PUBLIC DOES SEE HIM DO NOT TRY TO APPROACH HIM, CALL US LET US KNOW WHERE HE IS AND LET US TRY TO APPREHEND HIM.
