Arizona unemployment rate drops to 5.2 percent in October

Arizona’s unemployment rate is down thanks to an above-average increase in jobs across the state’s economy.

The state Department of Administration reports that October’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.2 percent, down from 5.5 percent in September.

The department says the state’s economy gained 28,000 nonfarm jobs in October. That’s above the post recession average gain of 26,500 jobs.

Also, 10 of 11 economic sectors added jobs, led by an 8,000-job increase in the professional and business services sector. The trade, transportation and utilities sector had the next largest increase with 5,100 jobs.

No sectors lost jobs, and the natural resources and mining sector’s workforce remained stable.
